Meisies wil net film hê! Watter plek vir vroue in die hedendaagse filmbedryf?
The place of women in today's film industry is the focus of this year's European Audiovisual Observatory annual Cannes workshop. The workshop entitled GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FILM! will take place on the first Saturday of the Cannes Film Market (17.5.2014) from 11-13h in the Salon des Ambassadeurs on the 4th floor of the Palais des Festivals.
The Observatory will provide its traditional round-up of market intelligence for the world film markets as well as looking at recently adopted European film rules (the new cinema communication) before moving on to the theme of this year's workshop.
Three major market studies on the contribution of women to today's film industry will be presented. In its own brand new study, the Strasbourg-based Observatory will be looking at admissions, percentages of women directors and genre issues. Studies by the French CNC and the British Film Institute will also focus on the place of women on the film industry and on female screenwriters respectively.
These studies will be followed by a panel discussion which will ask what can be done to even up the odds for women working in film today. The Observatory will be bringing together film makers, producers and decision makers at a political level in order to examine possible solutions such as positive discrimination in order to encourage women film makers.
As every year, this workshop is open to all Marché du Film and Festival as well as press accreditations. The European Audiovisual Observatory, part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, will have its stand in the same place as last year for the duration of the Marché du film at level 01 in the Palais des Festivals, stand number is 18:02.
