Die Kommissie het die toevoeging van 'n nuwe geografiese aanduiding van Spanje in die register van beskermde geografiese aanduiding (BGB) goedgekeur. 'Queso Castellano' is a full-fat to extra full-fat cheese made from raw or pasteurised sheep's milk produced on farms located in Castile and Leon.

Its taste is full-bodied and intense, but more acidic on the palate than other similar cheeses as a result of the pressing and maturing stages in the traditional cheesemaking process. These cheeses are slightly spicy, with moderately to highly persistent flavours and a limited final aftertaste. Sheep-rearing and the production of cheese in Castile and Leon dates back to at least the 16th century and ‘Queso Castellano' is today hugely popular at rural markets, in shops and specialized establishments.

This new registration will join nearly 1,470 already protected products, the list of which is available in the eAmbrosia databasis. Vir meer inligting, sien ook die bladsye op kwaliteit beleid
