Brexit
Regsreaksie op # Article50-sneller - DLA Piper
Brexit will initiate long and complex legal negotiations over the coming two years. In response a global law firm, DLA Piper issued the following statement:
"After more than nine months since the referendum in the United Kingdom, the clock now starts ticking on a two-year period in which the terms of the UK's exit from the European Union must take shape. The legal and political wrangling has now entered a new phase and the BREXIT process has now formally begun.
The negotiations will be complex. Agreeing a withdrawal agreement within two years will be a real - and unprecedented - challenge. We predict significant legal and political debate in areas as diverse as the size of the Brexit bill or the status of UK citizens within the EU.
The UK Government wants to set the terms of the UK’s future relationship with the EU over the same period. Many EU States doubt whether this is feasible, given the highly complex and technical nature of the task ahead. However, both sides risk a certain degree of legal uncertainty if the UK leaves the EU after two years without shaping the contours of a provisional agreement for on-going commercial relations with EU States.
Starting with the next two years, but also many years beyond as the EU and the UK shape their new relationship, businesses will be faced with huge challenges as they seek to follow and interpret the unfolding negotiations, influence their outcome, understand the impact of changing national legislations across more than 28 jurisdictions, and work out the effects of what is being proposed on their respective sectors."
